Rugby League: Kiwi Ferns warned

Cross-code women's rugby players have been given a stern message that if they want to play in league's World Cup they must not dabble in 15-a-side football this season.

The Kiwi Ferns defend their world title against seven or eight rivals - depending on whether the Russians confirm their entry - at North Harbour Stadium from September 18 to October 12.

New Zealand Women's Rugby League secretary Cherie Steele said that players who risked injuries in rugby union would not be included in the Kiwi Ferns.
