MELBOURNE: Leading trainer David Hayes has been fined A$2500 ($3200) at a Racing Victoria Limited stewards' inquiry into Poison Ivy receiving shock wave therapy which led to her withdrawal from a race at Moonee Valley last month.
Hayes was found guilty of a charge of being negligent in that, as the trainer of Poison Ivy, he failed to have in place adequate stable procedures which would have prevented Poison Ivy receiving the therapy on November 18 when entered to run in the Tatts Group Handicap at Moonee Valley on November 20.
A horse that has been subjected to any form of shock wave therapy is ineligible to race or take part in any trial in the seven days following the treatment.
Evidence was taken from Hayes' stable manager Gary Fennessy and veterinarian Dr David McKellar, the employer of veterinary surgeon Dr Eoin Kelly who administered the treatment.
Evidence was also taken from RVL chief veterinary surgeon Dr Paul O'Callaghan.
