Racing: Rapid Kay on fast track to New Plymouth

Rapid Kay and Octapussy drew attention to their weekend prospects when they worked in good style at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping 25m out on an easy course proper, Rapid Kay (Bosson) and Etoile Du Nord (T Harris) were travelling well at the end of a solid1000m in 1:04.1, the last 600 in
37.3.

Rapid Kay should be well placed in the Mason Appliances Stakes at New Plymouth on Saturday.

Octapussy, ridden by co-trainer Mark Donoghue, did well to run 1000m by herself in 1:07.7, the last 600 in a smart 37.9. She is in good order to kick off the season at Ellerslie on Saturday.

Hamish (T Thornton), another for Ellerslie, was partnered by Pihanga (C Thornton) in a solid workout over 1200m in 1:22.5, the final 600 in 38.8.

Brave Flyer (Dowling), a race rival for Rapid Kay provided the ground is good, went with Bazelle (De Klerk) over 1200m in 1:19.2, the 600 in 38.2.

Over the same ground The Big Whoppado (Weatherley) took 1:19.6 and 38.8, while Spur Bird (Colgan) and Stella Doro (Spratt) recorded 1:19.2 and 40.2.

Call It The Blues (Coleman) and Zappeal (Hewitt) had pace on throughout 1200m in 1:18.6 and 39.4.

Spring Season (Davidson) was keen through the early stages of 1000m, clocking 1:05.8 and 39.3 for the last 600.

Mohican Brave (De Klerk) and Be Famous (Russell) covered 1200m in 1:23.8, the 600 in 40.8.

Bhandara (Ritchie) and Blu Rapture (Weatherley) had first use of the track when they cut out 1000m in 1:05.2, the 600 in 38.2.

Mind Set (Moody) and a Deputy Governor filly (De Klerk) ran 1000m in 1:08.2, the 600 in 41.2, while Elmwood Blue (Ong) and a Deputy Governor gelding (Ritchie) took 1:06.6 and 39.2.

On the all-weather track Kristov (Bosson) looked ready for another good effort at Ellerslie on the weekend when he finished his work with 1000m in 1:7.6, the 600 in 38.9.

Centaure (L Innes) and Talisman (R Jones) worked boldly over 1000m in 1:03.2, the 600 in 36.4.

Logarhythm (Davidson) took 1:06.4 for the last 1000m of his work and 38.2 for the final 600m. Sabra (Dowling) was not pushed to run 1000m in 1:13.2, the 600 in 41.9.

On the sand which was good easy, Stik To The Basics (Rattley) looked well when working over 1200m in 1:22, the final 600 in 37.8.

Stradivarious (Weatherley) and Amira (Ritchie) did well to run 1000m in 1:05.4, the 600 in 37, while Irish Sky (Davidson) and Pentaine (Peel) covered the same ground in 1:04.3 and 38.2.

Buckle My Shoe (O'Sullivan) stepped up in her work to cover 1000m in 1:07.3 and the 600 in 39.6, as did Singasong (Ritchie) in clocking 1:05.6 and 39. Cushy (K Jones) and Veil (Carston) ran their 1000m in 1:04.8, the 600 in 38.2.

Temple Hill (L Innes) caught the eye when working with Stand Tall (Russell) over 1000m in 1:06.5, the 600 in 37.6.

Spangle (Rattley) took 1:06.2 and 40 over the same ground, while Lenraad (McKay) and Prized Asset (Davidson) clocked 1:04.5 and 38.2.

Justa Tad was in sparkling form at Takanini yesterday.

With first use of a soft No 1 grass, 6m out, the filly galloped 1200 in 1:19.5, the last 1000 in 1:3.4 and 600 in 38.9. These times were excellent.

Cheval De Troy led Korau Road in the finish of 1000m in 1:4, the last 600 in 38.2.

Megabucks and Spherical sprinted 1:4.2, the final 600 in 38.6. Megabucks looks ready again after a short break.

Wise Man's Step promised further good form before tracks really firm when running 1000m in 1:8.6, quickening for the closing 600 in 38.3.

Savute and Swigilo finished 1000m in 1:5.2, the last 600 in 39. Sandboy, looking better for his recent race, finished 1000m in 1:7.4, the last 600 in 40.6. Tantalic covered the last 1000m of 1600 in 1:6.3.
