Racing: Excellent work despite heavy Matamata track

Last-start winners Luscilla and Glitzy were in excellent form at Matamata yesterday as they prepared for weekend racing.

On the course proper which was heavy 30 metres out, Glitzy was travelling strongly at the end of 1000m in 1:08.6, the final 600 in 40.3. She will run in the Lion Brown Plate at Rotorua.

Luscilla, a candidate for the Fayette Park Stakes at Hawera, also looked good at the end of her work, 1200m in 1:21 and the final 600 in 40.4.

Vinaka, a rival for Glitzy at Rotorua, worked well with Singing Star over 1000m in 1:07.5, the final 600 in 40. Centra Rotorua Plate candidate Sunray maintained an even gallop over 1200m in 1:22.9, the 600 in 41.8.

Sierra Dane led Florida to the end of 800m in 52.8, the last 600 in 40.2.

Galway Lass, who continues her New Zealand Cup preparation in the Egmont Cup on Saturday, worked soundly over 1200m in 1:23.8, the last 600 in 41.6.

Au Fait worked well for a maiden when she covered 1000m with Mohawk in 1:06.9, the final 600 in 40.

Don't Tell Pete and Upsetthym hit the line well after running along early in their workout over 1200m in 1:23.3, the last 600 in 42.8.

Maroofity, who trials at Te Awamutu tomorrow, appeared to enjoy his work over 1000m in 1:11, the final 600 in 41.7. Promise Unbroken worked stylishly over 800m in 52.8, the final 600 in 40.8.

On the all-weather track, Rotorua entrants Deebee Belle and Deebee Jean were paired in a smart workout, recording 1:16.7 for their last 1200m and 37.8 for the final section.

Miss Higgins took 1:04.4 for 1000m, the final 600 in 37.2.

On the sand, which was good, Black Muscat worked over 1200m in 1:22, the final 600 in 38.6.

Marie Claire was doing her work well at the end of 1200m in 1:24, the 600 in 41.5.

Pennies In Heaven took 1:18.2 for 1200m, the last 600 in 37.8. Over the same ground Penny Gem took 1:23.5 and 38.2.

Tanor Manor and Flash Red wasted no time over 1000m in 1:05.6, the 600 in 36.2.

Pay My Bail recorded a smart time in testing conditions at Takanini. Working on the outside of an extremely heavy No 1 grass the McKee-trained filly cut out 800m in 55, the last 600 in 42.1.

Raspberry Ripple was well clear of Montreal Gold, a noted lazy trackworker, after 1600m, the last 1200 in 1:29.5 and 600 in 44.5.

Tee Cee and Sir Kinloch did well to run 1200m in 1:26, the last 600 in 44.5.

On the sand, Belair covered 1000m in 1:8.9, the last 600 strongly in 40.6.

At Pukekohe, on a heavy course proper, Hoof'n It passed the 1000m in 1.08 and completed the 600m in 39.1.

Rubbledum went past the 800m in 56.3 and finished the 600m in 39.5.

Stablemates Bensheim and Rapitaine worked well during a quiet session at Avondale yesterday.

Akela and Danske Very Much highlighted trackwork at Cambridge.

Working 15m out on a heavy No 2 grass Akela, an unlucky runner at Hastings last start galloped nicely alongside Danske Very Much covering 1000m in 1:8.5, sprinting the last 600 in 40.8.

James Scott and On Spec completed 1000m together in 1:6.3, the final section cut out in 41.4.

Gold Member and Melissa were on terms throughout 800m run in 55.1.

Nine Eleven and Rodrigo were in good form at Te Awamutu.

Working in the middle of a heavy No 1 grass Nine Eleven and Rodrigo flew early over 1000m to record 1:3.9, the last 600 in 39.2.

Just Aqua and Spur Of The Moment ran 1000m in 1:7.5, the 600 in 39.8.

Balthazar and Daylight Dawning took 52.8 to run 800m, the 600 in 39.2.
