Class stayer Phenomenal View will miss the Hawkes Bay Cup and race next in the A$500,000 Chairman's Handicap in Sydney.
Co-trainer Frank Ritchie has had a sudden change of plans because he feels the Chairman's is an easier option than racing first at Hawkes Bay.
"The Hastings option means a
trip there then a plane trip to Sydney. By going for the Chairman's it means he will have only one trip."
Phenomenal View brilliantly won at Tauranga on Saturday, overcoming an unsuitable track which bordered on heavy. That was only his second start back from a spell and he will have only the Chairman's before the 3200m A$800,000 Sydney Cup.
"That's a very skinny preparation," said Ritchie, "but I'm certain it's the right approach.
"He's a horse who does not enjoy being overraced and I can do a lot with him between races."
A lightweight rider is required for Phenomenal View in the Sydney Cup.
The stayer will be flown to Sydney early next week.
His stablemate, Raspberry Ripple, arrived in Sydney from Auckland on Monday.
Raspberry Ripple's main target is the AJC Oaks.
