New Zealand punters have staked about $250,000 so far on Tuesday's Melbourne Cup, the country's biggest-betting horse race.
The number of bets - about 20,000 - was roughly the same as at this point last year, said TAB racing manager Michael Dore.
The bulk of betting was always on the day, reaching $5.95 million last year.
Mr Dore said Mamool remained the favourite, with New Zealand horse Distinctly Secret third-favourite. A "leading Kiwi", Honor Babe, has been pulled out.
TV One will broadcast the race live from Flemington. It is scheduled to start at 5.10pm.
