Motorsport: Waimate 50 street race on

Motorsport New Zealand has given the green light to organisers of a revived Waimate 50 street race. The race has not been held since 1999 because of safety concerns after two spectators were killed in a Queenstown event the previous year.

The governing body has put in place tough safety constraints since the Queenstown accident, making it hard for organisers of events such as Waimate's to get permission to race.
