Motorsport: Former motor rally champion jailed

A former British motor rally champion was jailed for four years yesterday after being found guilty of killing a woman when he lost control of his speeding car.

Mark Flaherty, aged 38, a four-time British rally champion during the 1980s, was convicted at Reading Crown Court of causing death by dangerous driving.

Norma Buchanan, 63, died instantly when Flaherty lost control of his high-powered vehicle as it rounded a corner and collided head-on with a car being driven by her husband.
