Aucklander Fabian Coulthard, after being disqualified from the previous round of the Formula Ford championship at Pukekohe two weeks ago, stormed back with two wins at Manfeild yesterday.
The teenager emerged unscathed from a series of tangles which left some of his closest rivals out of contention. Worst affected was fellow
Aucklander Simon Gamble, who was spun off into the bushes, damaging his car in an incident which also involved American Bryan Sellers.
Chasing Coulthard home in both races was local youngster Nelson Hartley in his best result for the year.
Michael Shepherd continued his domination of the Formula Firsts with three wins. The minor placings were filled by Paul Butler and youngsters Stephen Matthews, Christina Orr and Barry Holden.
Robin Porter and son Mark dominated the truck racing, but the national title has gone to Mataura driver Inky Tulloch. Hamilton driver Robin Porter won two of the main races and Aucklander Mark took the other with Tulloch filling the minor placings.
Timaru driver Craig Gilbert won two of the Tranzam races but his victory in the championship had still to be confirmed following technical challenges. Ashley Stichbury, Andrew Anderson and Dean Perkins shared the V8 tourer spoils, and Phil Hellebrekers won two of the three two-litre races.
In the final V8 tourer race, Jody Vincent drove Grant Baker's Ford Falcon to second place after Baker handed over the car following a couple of on-track coming-togethers.
