DURBAN - Jonny Reid has shrugged off the fear factor that affects many drivers on their first street circuit outing to qualify in third place for both races in South Africa's round of the A1GP.
The 24-year-old got his first taste of the walls and sharp turns thatcharacterise street circuits like Durban during practice and, in true Kiwi style, put his head down and posted some excellent times.
Canada's Robert Wickens - who impressed at the Eastern Creek round with a stunning wet weather drive - will start the sprint race from pole, with Brazil's Bruno Junqueira far exceeding his 12th place in practice to leap up the time sheets into second.
The second grid row will see Reid in Black Beauty next to Brit Oliver Jarvis in fourth place. Row three consists of Switzerland's Neel Jani and German Michael Ammermuller
Local hero Adrian Zaugg pushed the envelope in sprint qualifying and spun, failing to set a flying lap time - meaning he will be forced to the back of the grid for the first race.
Feature qualifying
Neel Jani secured pole for the feature race, with the promising 18-year-old Wickens in second place.
Jonny Reid, who has impressed many in Durban with his methodical approach to learning the imposing track, will start in third place with Great Britain's Oliver Jarvis in fourth place.
Reid's main championship rival, Frenchman Loic Duval, qualified in eighth place.
New Zealand currently tops the A1GP leaderboard, but shares the same 96 points with France.
