Gridiron: Sports agent stole $34m

American sports agent William "Tank" Black, who stole between $US12 million and $US14 million (around $34 million) from NFL players he represented, was found guilty in Gainesville, Florida, yesterday of fraud, conspiracy and obstruction of justice.

His co-defendant, Linda Wilson, was convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud and defrauding the Government. The sports agent, who hung his head when the verdict was read, faces up to 25 years in prison.

Wilson faces up to five years in prison.

Black's attorney, Jon Uman, vowed to appeal. "I'm extremely disappointed."

Last June, Black was sentenced to six years and 10 months in prison for a money-laundering charge stemming from a drug operation in Detroit.
