Kevin Fallon's short-term coaching stint with the Football Kingz appears to be over, but without any decision from the club on who is likely to replace him.
Kingz chief executive Chris Turner is due to announce the club's coach for the new season, starting on September 20,
within the next couple of days.
Fallon could not be contacted last night and Turner was not returning calls, but it appears that All Whites assistant coach, and New Zealand Soccer's high performance manager, Ricki Herbert is right in the frame.
It is also understood that approaches were made to All Whites and former Napier City Rovers coach Mick Waitt, and rejected.
Herbert confirmed last night that he had spoken to Turner last week and would meet him again today.
He will also talk to NZS chief executive Bill MacGowan. That suggests it will be an "either\or" decision, because relations between the Kingz and the national body have been strained.
Fallon was appointed midway through last season to replace Shane Rufer, who had taken over temporarily after Mike Petersen's sudden departure.
On the day on which the draw for the National League season will be released - confirming the Kingz participation - the club have still not named their coach, playing staff or home ground, which almost certainly will again be Ericsson Stadium.
