An unbeaten century from Hamish Marshall could not save the Black Caps from defeat in their one-day international against Pakistan overnight.
Marshall finished 101 not out off just 109 balls to record his first century for his country as New Zealand scored 263-7 replying to Pakistan's 314-7 at Faisalabad's Iqbal Stadium.
Pakistan's
win seals them the one-day series with a 3-0 lead heading into the two remaining matches.
Despite Marshall's efforts at number four, the Black Caps were behind the required run-rate right from the start of their 50 overs and never looked like reaching the target.
They were only 116-3 after 30 overs before a late surge from Marshall and Chris Harris, who was the second highest scorer with 46, at least made the loss closer.
Fast bowler Mohammad Sami was again the best of the Pakistanis, claiming 3-22 off eight overs to follow his five wicket bag in their last clash.
It was their batting that was the key to victory though, as they again put the New Zealand bowlers to the sword.
Harris was the only bowler not taken apart, although he only delivered five overs for 21 runs and no wickets.
International newcomer Matthew Walker finished with figures of 4-49 off seven overs but claimed three wickets in the last over as the Pakistanis went for everything.
The damage had already been done much earlier when, having won the toss and batted, Pakistani openers Yasir Hameed and Imran Farhat racked up 142 runs before the first wicket fell in the 30th over.
Farhat ended up the top scorer with 91 before being caught off Daniel Vettori while Hameed made 63 and Yousuf Youhana 64 off 75 balls.
