Less than 24 hours before the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, a bombshell accusation has rocked the tiny nation of Mauritius.
An unnamed female athlete from the East African nation has accused the country's chef de mission, Kaysee Teeroovengadum, of inappropriate sexual behaviour.
The alleged behaviour reportedly took place just daysafter the team moved into the Athletes' Village, according to 9news.
Queensland police say no complaint has been made but they are reportedly investigating the matter. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has said it is aware of reports.
"The chief executive officer of the Commonwealth Games Federation has been made aware through media representatives of purported allegations, however there has been no reporting to the CGF through the established village processes," the CGF said.
"The CGF has a close working relationship with Queensland police, and while we have been informed that no complaint has been made to the police at this point in time, we understand that they are conducting inquiries into the matter.
"We have the utmost confidence in Queensland police and its investigative capabilities. We will be making no further comment at this time."
Officers say Teeroovengadum approached police wanting to give a statement denying the allegations. "We've got the Australian ways that we have to follow. Whether guests in the country, we are here so we have to follow the rules here," Mauritius team official George Siniska said.
