Bowls: Prestigious North Harbour tournament draws near

One of North Harbour's most prestigious lawn bowls tournaments will be played over three days next week.

The Mairangi club's Founders tournament starts on Monday with the final on Wednesday. It will involved 34 fours from clubs from all over the Harbour centre as well as some from Auckland.

The legendary Ivan Kostanich heads a strong Helensville four and also in the field is a former Auckland centre champion and representative Jack Gilbert who now plays from the Orewa club.

The tournament has a strong cricket influence, with previous winning fours including former test players Roger Harris, Matt Poore and Trevor Meale.
