Winston Peters says no truth in Woman's Weekly editorial

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters denied he was out to seek publicity and said he respected privacy.

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters is on the cover of this week's NZ Woman's Weekly - but has slammed the editorial about him as fake news.

"If you read what the editor of that magazine says, none of it is true," Peters said in an interview with Newstalk ZB.

Editor Alice O'Connell had written: "He's [Winston Peters] notoriously private when it comes to his personal life, but this week he couldn't turn down the opportunity to answer questions supplied by you, our readers, and feature in our magazine alongside the leaders of all the other major political parties."

Peters denied he was out to seek publicity and said he respected privacy.

"The editor sends the questions to me and I replied to them and then I find myself...in the centre of an article seeking personal publicity," Peters said.

"Its demonstrably wrong. But when can you do, this is 2017..."

In the interview, Peters revealed that he likes green tea with nothing added because his friends said it was good for him.

He also said many things made him proud to be a New Zealander, but most importantly from a lifestyle perspective - born in a country called God's Own, which may have become now the "devil's own mess".

NZ Woman's Weekly has been approached for comments.
