Whangarei rest home hits back

The Ministry of Health has been accused of pursuing a vendetta against a rest home.

The Lady Jessica's licence lapsed at the end of June and Director-General of Health Colin Feek will not renew it.

An appeal has been lodged on behalf of rest home owner Lesley Attwood.

The ministry said last month that the rest-home would undergo continual monitoring after a fatal morphine overdose was accidentally administered to a resident.

Whangarei coroner Max Atkins criticised staff and management after an inquest into the death of Dorothy Emilie Robertson in 2001.
