Wellington Airport closed by fog

Wellington Airport was closed by fog tonight for the second time in less than a week.

A thick fog descended on the city about 7pm, causing flights to be cancelled or diverted.

MetService forecaster Derek Holland said the fog was caused by moist air coming from the east and there was not enough wind to blow it away.

The fog was not expected to lift until late tomorrow morning. Last Friday fog delayed thousands of travellers.
