Warbird crash cause won't be known for months

It will be months before it is known what caused the fatal crash of a vintage warbird into the Firth of Thames.

Chris Timms and Kerry Campbell were killed when the Fouga Magister jet they were flying crashed just off the coast of Kaiaua on Friday.

Civil Aviation Authority spokesman Bill Sommer says all the wreckage has now been retrieved and most of the eye-witnesses have been spoken to.

He says it will now be a long and pain-staking process to get through all the steps of the investigation.

Mr Sommer says it could take up to nine months before a final report is out.
