Waitomo amalgamation decision looms

A decision on a proposal to join the Waitomo and Otorohanga Districts to form a new district council will be released by the Local Government Commission at the end of the month.

The commission's review followed a proposal for the union from the Waitomo council in 2001.

There will be a public meeting on the issue at the Waitomo Cultural and Arts Centre, Te Kuiti, on August 29 starting at 11.30am.
