Van Wijk wins gold at champs

His inexperience didn't matter as Masterton's Neil Van Wijk won the gold medal in the boys 13 years and under 200m breaststroke at the national age group swimming championships at Te Rapa over the weekend.
Van Wik might have been competing at national level for the first time and his competitive swimming career might be only into its second year but his victory was decisive, and then some!
His time for the 200m breaststroke of 2mins 37.22secs was over 3secs better than that of runner-up, Blair McGregor of the Waves club, while Jeffrey Arona-Tuifanae of Howick-Pakuranga was third in 2mins 45.88secs.
