Tyre company charged over workers death

Bridgestone Firestone has been charged with three offences under the Health and Safety in Employment Act over a fatal accident at its plant in Papanui, Christchurch.

Adam Hopkins, 30, died in February after being caught in machinery at the plant, leading to Firestone workers seeking a Government inquiry into the accident.

The charges, laid by the Occupational Health and Safety Service, accuse the company of failing to provide a safe workplace.
