Two people have been seriously injured after a car and bus collided on the Wanaka-Luggate Highway this morning. Police said they were called to the scene, between Morris Rd and Ballantyne Rd, on State Highway 6 at 9.50am. / Otago Daily Times

Two people have been seriously injured after a car and bus collided on the Wanaka-Luggate Highway this morning.

Police said they were called to the crash, between Morris and Ballantyne Rds, on State Highway 6 at 9.50am.

A St John spokesman said two people were seriously injured and one had minor to moderate injuries.

Two helicopters would fly the seriously injured pair, who were in the car, to Dunedin Hospital.

The road is closed and diversions were being put in place.

Motorists were asked to be patient.

A witness, who was in the car immediately behind the one that crashed, said the driver of the car "suddenly" turned into the opposite lane right in front of the bus.
