KEY POINTS:
It has emerged a meeting with TV3 is what led police to the men now accused of stealing medals from the Waiouru Army Museum.
Hotel security cameras are reported to have captured images of a man as he turned up for an interview with the Campbell Live show.
The Sunday Star Times reported the meeting, which was later re-shot using an actor, took place at the Duxton Hotel in Auckland.
The paper said CCTV images from the hotel led to the arrest and charging of two men who appeared in court during the week.
It said Campbell Live had no pictures of the man identifying himself as the medal thief, just an audio tape which was later transcribed.
It was not clear if the station's involvement would force John Campbell to give evidence when the men go to trial.
