Transfund told to pay for roads in Northland and East Cape

The Government has directed Transfund to fully finance Northland and East Cape land transport projects.

The Government in February earmarked $30 million for transport-related regional development projects. The fully funded projects would come from that. "It is aimed at helping Northland and East Cape develop better transport links to cope with the so-called wall of wood, due to be harvested soon," Transport Minister Paul Swain said.

Transfund usually paid about half a project's cost.
