Tobacco stash hidden on road, say police

A stash of stolen tobacco and cigarettes may have been hidden somewhere along State Highway 2 between Greytown and Te Marua, Upper Hutt, after two service stations in the Wairarapa were broken into early yesterday.

Police believe the same offenders were responsible for the break-ins at Western Auto Mart in Masterton and Greytown Challenge Service Station.

A substantial amount of tobacco and cigarettes were taken from both service stations and could have been dumped or hidden between Greytown and Te Marua.

Four people have been arrested and are being questioned by police.
