A man convicted of beating and strangling his girlfriend while on parole for assaulting her will appeal the conviction.
Nikora Allan Turner, aged 32, was sentenced to life imprisonment, a minimum of 13 years, after a jury found him guilty of murdering his de facto partner Te Miringi Tipene, 41, alsoknown as Milly Dunn, in Taumarunui last year.
His lawyer, Sean Ellis, said Mr Turner had instructed him to appeal the conviction.
Yesterday, in the High Court at Hamilton, Justice Grant Hammond described Turner as a "timebomb waiting to happen".
Justice Hammond said Turner had served six prison sentences for assaulting females and had ignored several warnings his abuse would one day lead to Ms Dunn's death.
