Three rescued from fishing boat at Lake Ellesmere, near Christchurch

Three people were rescued from a fishing boat that grounded at Lake Ellesmere south of Christchurch early this morning.

A Maritime NZ spokesman said it received a distress call from the boat at 2am.

The people are now safe.
