Third arrest in beating case

KAIKOHE - A third man has been arrested in connection with the death of David Robert Taylor.

The Henderson man received head injuries in a fight at Omapere Beach early on New Year's Day and died in Auckland Hospital on Monday.

Two Rotorua men, aged 17 and 19, were charged with causing grievous bodily harm and remanded in custody by the Kaikohe District Court until January 25. The third man, who gave himself up on Tuesday, also appeared in the court yesterday.

His identity and the charges he faces have been suppressed until today.

Police are not seeking anyone else but want anyone who was near Omapere Wharf or Fresse Park early on January 1 to contact them.
