Text messages jam Vodafone system

Revellers wanting to send New Year wishes to friends and family loved ones on the stroke of midnight via Vodafone text messaging were out of luck.

Hundreds of thousands of people overloaded the system, and many messages were not sent.

Vodafone spokeswoman Alison Sykora said the problem was everyone trying to send messages at the same time.
