Fans are in for a treat with mostly clear skies expected for the Paul McCartney concert in Auckland tonight.

The Metservice is predicting fine weather in Penrose, the location of the Mt Smart Stadium concert, for most of the night although there could be some drizzle about 10pm.

Auckland Transport was also warning motorists there would be road closures and parking restrictions around the stadium which could cause traffic delays and was encouraging people to use public transport.

Special event buses were running from Northern Busway stations and the city centre and concert-goers could travel to and from the concert by trains and special event buses for free by showing their concert ticket.

Meanwhile, a teen with a rare and aggressive bone cancer will be doing all he can to get the attention of his idol at tonight's concert.

Jackson Margan, who is battling Ewing's Sarcoma, is a huge fan of the British rocker.

While he and his parents have managed to get tickets to tonight's soundcheck and concert at Mt Smart Stadium, he is still hopeful he might get to meet his musical idol.

The 15-year-old's mother Natasha Ching said when Jackson was diagnosed with cancer in September 2016, the Make-A-Wish Foundation asked him what his one wish was.

"He said 'there's no point. My only wish would be to meet Paul McCartney and he's never going to come to New Zealand' and then of course he has," Ching said.

Ching said Make-A-Wish did everything in their power to try and make Jackson's wish come true but were unsuccessful.

Desperate to meet McCartney, Jackson made a banner to take to the concert which reads "All my life I was only waiting for this moment to arise. Please meet me".

However Ching said she was not sure if he was allowed to take it in due to stadium rules.

Now, Ching is trying everything possible to get Jackson a meet and greet including asking people to share a photo on social media of Jackson holding his banner.

"It would mean the world to him. He is a really positive kid as well he has never once said 'why me'…he never complains about anything," Ching said.

"A lot of his treatment he has been wheelchair bound and not had the energy to do a lot of stuff so music has played a big part because he can just chill out and listen."

Review: Paul McCartney's 'profound' Auckland concert

17 Dec 04:34 PM

Jackson went through about eight months of radiation and chemotherapy after he was diagnosed last year. In May the family received the good news that he was in remission.

But just five months later they found out Jackson's cancer had come back. His mum said he had been in a lot of pain.

Ching said there was a one in three chance that Jackson would respond to treatment and a one in 10 chance he would live for three years.

She has also set up a Givealittle page to raise funds to help the family with travel, parking, other costs and making Jackson's days out of hospital extra special.
