Jailed as a teenager for ripping off her mother's bank account by almost $185,000, Kimberley Ware later worked for the tax department - and fleeced it, too.
Ware, 22, of Raumati, north of Wellington, exploited an earlier error through which she had been given two Inland Revenue Department numbers, the WellingtonDistrict Court was told.
Judge Mike Behrens, QC, said it was not alleged that Ware had obtained work at Inland Revenue so she could commit the frauds, but she had manipulated the numbers issued under two versions of her name to divert $23,000 to an account for her own use.
Inland Revenue discovered the fraud and most of the money was recovered.
Ware pleaded guilty to four fraud charges. Judge Behrens sentenced her to 300 hours' community work and a year's supervision by a probation officer.
