Suspicious fire in Hamilton flats

Police are treating a fire that broke out in a group of Hamilton flats yesterday as suspicious. A plumber who was driving along Old Farm Rd, near the university, saw flames coming out of a window in one of the upstairs flats. Fire safety officer Dave Jenkins said it was too early to say what caused the fire but it appeared suspicious.

The two-bedroom flat was gutted. Several others were damaged by smoke and water. Witnesses are asked to call the Hamilton East police on (07) 856 0291.
