Son stole $15,000 from mother

A Nelson man who used his mother's Visa and eftpos card in a "sustained attack" on her finances has been sentenced to supervision.

John Alun Fullerton, 22, who was described in Nelson District Court documents as a sandwich artist, appeared for sentencing on four charges of using a document and two of taking a document.

The amount stolen totalled $15,300. It was all taken from money machines.

Fullerton's lawyer, Hamish Riddoch, said Fullerton owed his mother $6172 and the Bank of New Zealand $6300, which he was paying back at $15 a week.

"The banks and finance companies are not going to let him off."

Fullerton was convicted on all charges and sentenced to nine months supervision, and ordered to attend counselling and seek budget advice.
