Sisters get out in sun while it lasts

The weekend ended with a splash for the Smith sisters, who enjoyed the warm, clear day at Mt Maunganui Beach yesterday.

Unfortunately for the young water lovers, the unseasonably warm weather isn't set to last.

The MetService is predicting scattered showers for Tauranga and Mt Maunganui from this afternoon.

Occasional rain and drizzle are also expected to hit the North Island's east coast, with showers in Northland, Auckland and the Coromandel.

The rest of the North Island should remain fine.
