A second Wairarapa man has been arrested over the driveby shooting of a 50-year-old man in his car in Masterton at the weekend, police said today.
A 31-year-old man, of Eketahuna, 35km north of Masterton, arrested yesterday afternoon, would appear at Masterton District Court today charged with attempting to murder LeeAnthony Harris, Detective Sergeant Graeme Reisima told NZPA.
Another man, Warren Davies, 51, appeared in court yesterday charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Mr Harris.
He was remanded on bail for a pre-depositions hearing next month.
Mr Harris was shot in the shoulder and arm as he sat in his car in Masterton about 4pm on Saturday. He drove himself to Masterton Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Mr Reisima said police were still investigating what led to the shooting, which the victim was reluctant to talk about. They were also searching for the shotgun used in the incident.
"We've still got further inquiries to do, but we are slowly understanding what's occurred here," Mr Reisima said.
"There's been a difference of opinion between two men previous to this and it has led to the culmination of the incident on Saturday."
There appeared to have been a car chase and two cars were damaged.
The victim's injuries were not thought to be particularly serious.
Mr Reisima said it was likely more charges over the incident would be laid today, but he would not elaborate.
