A report on the state of South Wairarapa pools has revealed it would cost up to $634,000 to bring the district's three swimming pools up to standard and fix other issues.
The Thompsons Fibreglassing report to council on Martinborough, Greytown and Featherston pools highlighted a number of costly issues, andwill go to community boards next week for discussion.
Councillor Solitaire Robinson said the reports were commissioned to check how they could make the most effective use of Featherston and Martinborough's solar heating systems but showed the pools were not up to New Zealand pool standards.
The report shows that all three pools need to have filters replaced, at a cost of between $8400 and $182,000 depending on the extent of the problem.
Greytown pool was originally painted with house paint, which was now flaking off into the water, is leaking, and has an inadequate skimming system - costing more than $170,000 to fix.
Martinborough's main pool is leaking and to fibreglass, seal and install pipes would cost $115,000.
All three pools have overflow tanks which are leaking, and resealing would cost about $8500 for each pool.
The report also outlined the cost of installing a solar heating system at Greytown pool - nearly $60,000 - and of covers for the pools which could cost up to $43,000.
