Then the 9am round did get under way but with players suffering from the temperature, which fell to 4C, the decision was made to abandon the games at the end of the first quarter.
"Some of the girls had so little movement in their hands because of the cold they couldn't catch the ball, there was a real threat of hypothermia becoming a problem and we weren't prepared to risk that," Biel said.
The loss of the two days play now means the season will stretch from late August into early September and Biel warns if further rounds had to be postponed there was a strong likelihood of double headers being played, some of them maybe even indoors.
"We were finishing earlier than usual anyway so we have room to go for a further two weeks but we wouldn't want to stretch things further than that," she said.
