Port workers picket in Invercargill

The Rail and Maritime Transport Union took its employment protest against South Port to Invercargill yesterday after three of its members were arrested for disorderly behaviour.

They had blocked access to the Bluff port and traffic had backed up for 1km as a result.

The union, seeking a 2.75 per cent pay rise for five permanent and 14 casual members, then picketed the offices of Environment Southland, which owns 70 per cent of the port.
