An "alarming"cache of high-powered firearms and ammunition have been seized from an Auckland lock-up.
Shotguns, military-style assault rifles, a silenced rifle, a handgun and thousands of rounds of ammunition were found by detectives at a storage compound in Onehunga yesterday as part of an on-going investigation into an associate of the Hells Angels.
A late model Holden ute was also confiscated under an asset seizure order and criminal charges are likely to be laid following a forensic examination of the lock-up, according to the Organised and Financial Crime Agency New Zealand Detective Senior Sergeant Lloyd Schmid said the raid came after a tip-off and the identity of anyone who come forward with information on criminal activity would be protected.
"This current seizure of firearms and ammunition follows valuable assistance that OFCANZ received from members of the public and we thank them for their assistance.
"The presence of these firearms in the community is alarming and we continue to encourage the public to assist Police by sharing information that they may have as we pursue positive avenues of enquiry.
