Police investigating the "violent" killing of a woman in suburban Wellington are focusing some of their inquiries on a taxi seen parked a short distance from the woman's home.
A 38-year-old was found dead by police shortly after 1am today in her Newlands home.
Police also found a 46-year-old mansuffering from minor injuries at the property. He was admitted to hospital, but has since been discharged and was speaking with police, Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch of Wellington CIB told a press conference today.
"He's at this stage not been formally charged but we are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident."
Police were investigating the movements of a white Wellington Combined taxi, which was parked about 100 metres from the woman's house. Mr Leitch said the taxi was connected to the man, but he would not say if the man was a taxi driver.
Police were asking residents if they had seen the vehicle in the area recently.
The woman had not yet been formally identified because police were waiting for family from Australia to arrive in New Zealand, Mr Leitch said.
He would not say if a weapon had been used against her, but said it was clear there had been a "violent incident" at the house.
A scene examination was continuing at the woman's property and police would be there "for some time", Mr Leitch said.
The woman lived at the property alone at the time he said.
A post-mortem examination would be carried out tomorrow to try to establish the cause of death.
