Police identify man found dead in Christchurch house

Police have identified the 64-year-old man who was found dead in a Christchurch house on Sunday - but will not release his name until his family has been informed.

Canterbury police said today the investigation into his death was continuing.

The man was found at a residential address in Linwood shortly before 12pm yesterday. His death was being treated as suspicious.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted but police would not comment on the results of the examination.

Detective Inspector Tony Hill said the man had been identified but his next-of-kin were still being located to be informed.

"The investigation team will now be focussing their attention on the scene and persons who have been in contact with the deceased on the days leading up to his death," he said.

It was believed he occupied the Linwood house.

The scene will remain under guard until the scene examination has been completed, Mr Hill said.
