A serial intruder who forced his way into the homes of three West Auckland couples and a lone woman could be a rapist, police fear.
During two of the break-ins, the man tried to lie on top of women, one sleeping alone on a couch.
He broke into four houses
and prowled over five other properties in the Ranui area between 2.30 am and 6 am last Friday.
The intruder left behind a size 10 black basketball boot with the brand name Major following a struggle with a man in one of the houses.
Detective Andy Saunders, of the Waitakere CIB, said police feared the man was a sexual predator whose attacks could escalate.
He said it was disturbing that the intruder was not put off by people being home at the time and police suspect he knows people in the area or lives there himself.
He is said to be 1.7m tall, in his late teens or early 20s, wearing dark clothes and a beanie or balaclava.
