Pay student loans online

Student loans can now be paid online, after Inland Revenue launched an internet-based credit-card payment option aimed at those living overseas.

About 7 per cent of student loan borrowers live overseas but they make up 54 per cent of those with overdue repayments. Westpac, which worked with the IRD to set up the payment option, charges a fee of 2.49 per cent for each transaction.

Visa cards cannot yet be processed.
