A person is dead after a crash between a car and a truck, which has led to the closure of a major Waikato highway this afternoon.
A police spokeswoman said they were alerted just before 3pm to the crash near the Airport Rd off-ramp on State Highway 1 at Tamahere, 10km southeast of Hamilton.
St John Ambulance tweeted that one person had died and a second person had minor injuries.
The person who was killed was travelling in the car involved in the collision, police said in a statement.

Advertise with NZME.SH1 at Tamahere is closed in both direction following the crash, a police spokeswoman said, and would remain closed for some time.
Diversions are in place and the Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
Police warned motorists to expect delays and thanked drivers for their patience.
The incident is the second major crash in Tamahere in 24 hours.
