One dead after car hits power pole at Tuakau

A person is dead and another critically injured after a car slammed into a power pole in the Pukekohe township of Tuakau this morning.

The car, which was carrying either four or five people, crashed around 12.45am, Inspector Barry Smalley of police northern communications said.

One person died at the scene, and the critically injured person was flown to Auckland Hospital.

"The other two or three in the car suffered minor injuries."

Details of the dead and injured were unavailable. Police were still trying to determine how many people had been in the car at the time of the crash.

The crash also disrupted power supply in the area for a short time, Mr Smalley said.
