A 130-year-old boarding house was shifted across Masterton last week, but it wasn't all smooth sailing.
The former Carnarvon Boarding House on Chapel Street was built around 1880, and run by Mrs Emma Marley. The top storey was moved to Villa St last week by Alpha Specialised Movers.
Retiree Richard
Wilton, who owns the house, said he had rented the boarding house out for the past seven years, but now planned to turn the property into a car yard.
He saved the top storey of the old home to set up on another property he owns. "I looked at it and thought 'I could take the top storey off that," he said. "We gave it a birthday".
Mr Wilton said some powerlines had to be removed to shift the house, and the severe winds delayed some construction on the new site on Monday.
