Three New Zealand tourists trapped in Bolivia after widespread social unrest are waiting for calm from the safety of hotels.
A New Zealand man and woman were at a hotel in the capital, La Paz, and in contact with the British Embassy until commercial flights from Bolivia resumed, said Foreign AffairsMinistry spokesman Brad Tattersfield.
A New Zealand woman travelling with her British boyfriend was stranded in Sucre, also in a hotel, he said.
"The woman did not call the British embassy, but contacted her family in New Zealand and we became aware of her that way."
All three New Zealanders were safe and happy to wait in the hotels, along with other foreigners, for the situation to improve, he said.
