A New Zealand man who killed a schoolboy after speeding through a red light in suburban Brisbane has been jailed for nine months.
Callum Ross Henry, 28, pleaded guilty in Brisbane's District Court yesterday to dangerous driving causing the death of primary school student Andrew Underwood on November 15, 2000.
The courtheard the eight-year-old had been playing at an intersection in Sunnybank Hills, south Brisbane, south and ran into the path of Henry's unladen truck, which was travelling 8kmh over the speed limit.
Henry, who was extradited from New Zealand to face the charge, was sentenced to nine months in jail, but has been on remand for more than six months awaiting a trial.
He pleaded guilty yesterday as the trial was set to start.
Henry will spend another three months in jail before the sentence is suspended for three years.
