A car crashing into a gas main this afternoon led to the evacuation of Ellerslie International Motor Inn and a number of surrounding properties.
A NZ Fire service spokesman said the crash, which happened at 3.45pm on the corner of Wilkinson Rd, had taken out the motor inn's gas supply.
"We had to evacuate an area around a block out there."
Traffic was heavy for some time after the crash, which had happened at relatively busy Auckland intersection.
Gas workers were on site at around four-thirty and isolated the fault shortly before five.
